During the DSGO practice day in Baarn, where Antoon is present on behalf of Utopis, one thing becomes clear: connecting to the digital system is no longer a future ambition, but a concrete next step.

For manufacturers and suppliers, this means that product data can no longer remain internally organised. The question is shifting from “do we have our data in order?” to “are we ready to connect to the chain?”

DSGO requires more than intention

During the practice day, the focus is on why DSGO is becoming essential. New regulations, increased chain collaboration and ongoing digitalisation mean that product data must be available, reliable and exchangeable.

However, DSGO itself does not manage data. It defines agreements on:

  • how data is shared
  • which standards are used
  • how systems communicate with each other

This creates a clear reality: organisations must structure their own data so that it fits within the system.

Connecting starts with your own data

In the sessions about “how”, it becomes clear where the real challenge lies. Connecting to DSGO is not just about integrations, but about preparation. Many manufacturers still work with:

  • scattered Excel files
  • different definitions across departments
  • limited connections between systems

This makes it difficult to share data consistently, which is exactly what DSGO requires. A well-structured data setup, with a single source of truth, is therefore no longer an optimisation, but a necessity.

From theory to working applications

The message is clear: this is not a vision, but a working reality. Organisations that take steps now can connect immediately.

For manufacturers, this means their systems and product information must be ready to become part of this digital infrastructure. This requires centralised, structured and standardised data that aligns with DSGO requirements. This is exactly where a PIM like Utopis plays its role, enabling product information to be organised in such a way that it is not only correct internally, but also directly exchangeable within the system.
