On 4 March we celebrate World Engineering Day. This year, the occasion is even more meaningful to us as BNB marks its 25th anniversary.

ZeeBoer was one of the founding members of the Dutch Association of Construction Specification Professionals (BNB). For a quarter of a century, this professional body has been dedicated to improving specifications, sharing knowledge and strengthening quality in construction. Because without clear requirements and reliable information, a BIM model remains little more than a 3D visual without guaranteed performance.

Why BNB matters

In recent years, digitalisation has transformed the construction industry. We model in BIM, exchange data and collaborate across the supply chain. Yet in many projects, the explicit link between the model and the performance requirements a product or system must meet is still missing.

This is precisely where BNB adds value. The association focuses on increasing and sharing knowledge about the specification process. How do you translate design ambitions into verifiable requirements? How do you safeguard quality in both specifications and digital models?

From model to verifiable quality

A BIM model without clear specifications is vulnerable. It shows what is being applied, but not automatically whether it complies with regulations, performance criteria or project objectives. At a time when safety, sustainability and transparency are under growing scrutiny, that poses a real risk.

BNB promotes professional excellence in drafting and managing construction specifications. In doing so, it builds a bridge between design, construction and asset management. This aligns with broader international developments around structured product data and the need to record information in a consistent and verifiable way.

Betrokken vanuit ZeeBoer

ZeeBoer was among the founding members of BNB. On behalf of ZeeBoer, Antoon has been closely involved with the association for many years. This commitment is rooted in a clear conviction: well-structured product information and careful specification accelerate construction and improve quality.

World Engineering Day highlights the contribution engineers make to a safer and more sustainable world. BNB demonstrates that specification professionals also play a crucial role. Only when requirements, product data and models are properly connected can projects deliver lasting value.

After 25 years, BNB’s mission is more relevant than ever.
