Why start with strategy?

Product information is business capital. For manufacturers who actively advise, specify and support applications in projects, product information is not a side issue. Yet in practice, there is often no shared definition of what product information actually is, which knowledge is strategically relevant, and who is responsible for what.

Our strategic exploration makes these choices explicit. Not from a software or IT perspective, but from content, application and context. This creates one consistent foundation for all outputs, from specifications and product datasheets to websites and digital services.

How the trajectory is structured

The trajectory consists of six interactive sessions of approximately two hours each, following a fixed structure that ensures progress and decision-making. Four sessions take place at ZeeBoer’s office; two sessions are held at the manufacturer’s location or online.

Key topics include:

  • organisational commitment and mandate;
  • product data versus product knowledge;
  • a shared conceptual information model;
  • legislation, standards and organisational impact;
  • ownership and data locations;
  • strategic direction for specifications, datasheets and systems.

Each session concludes with clearly documented decisions and concrete next steps.

However, the outcome does form a well-founded basis for next steps, such as developing specifications, product datasheets or implementing a PIM solution like Utopis. This prevents tools and documents from becoming the starting point, instead of the result.
